OhioHealth will open a latest urgent care (UC) facility next summer after purchasing a former Walgreen’s building to house it.
OhioHealth bought the vacant Walgreen’s building at 130 University Drive for $1.3 million in late June.
OhioHealth plans to buy Dr. David Mauk’s practice, Immediate Urgent Care, at 1036 Mt. Vernon Ave., and relocate it to the University Drive site, from where the health provider plans to give urgent care, primary care and walk-in lab services, in accordance with a news release.
Dr. Mauk claimed that he will keep his chiropractic practice and work out of his offices at 1036 Mt. Vernon Ave.
OhioHealth plans to open the facility next summer, the release stated.
The move comes as OhioHealth looks to expand access to its services, claimed Jodi Norton, spokesperson for OhioHealth.
“We felt the requirement for additional urgent care,” Norton said. “It is a less expensive alternative to emergency care so sometimes if folks can’t get into their primary care doctor; they sometimes go to urgent care.”
Norton said OhioHealth also required more space for their primary care physicians. Plus the old Walgreen’s building is a prime location across from The Ohio State University’s Marion branch.
Dr. Mauk stated that he decided to sell the urgent care practice because he could not meet all of his patients’ requirements out of his small building.
“It was getting to the point where we were getting so busy, it was getting difficult to handle,” he said. “We could have used a bigger building. … I was searching to slow up a little big in terms of management.”
Dr. Mauk said urgent care fills a gap in Marion, where he said several patients don’t have family doctors and where there are fewer family doctors to start with.
