BCBS or Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia developed a maternity telehealth platform program available for entire members on the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP), as key part of their existing maternity support program.
With ever increasing telehealth adoption rates, the BCBS program is the newest in a surge of initiatives and declarations of telehealth advancement.
“Future Moms,” now provides expectant and new mothers telehealth visits with a lactation consultant, counselor or registered dietitian through private and secure video utilizing their smartphone, tablet or computer with a webcam.
The maternity telehealth platform program is hosted on LiveHealth Live, where SHBP members have had access to breastfeeding support since the day of January 1st of this year. Mothers also get a number of new support programs, along with 24/7 telehealth availability and evening consults.
Experts can offer guidance to mothers on topics involving nursing positions, latching, low milk production, formula feeding, right nutrition when breastfeeding, introducing solids and more. This program comes at no extra cost for SHBP members.
“This is an important addition to the Future Moms program, provided that breastfeeding can mostly be such a complex and challenging endeavor for mothers and their newborns,” stated April Ruffin, MD, Medical Director of BCBS or Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia.
Supporting evidence of the growing telemedicine market involves the rise of rural telemedicine visits over the course of a decade, and more states devoting to pro-telehealth and telemedicine initiatives such as the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact.
BCBS Georgia expects the advantages of telehealth devices will give members a wide range of care requirements.
“We’re very enthusiastic about this enhanced resource, and we expect that SHBP members will utilize this program, as well as other LiveHealth Online services to deal non-emergency health care queries when and if they require it,” Ruffin stated.
